Stacy Pershall is an accomplished author who lives with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and struggled with eating disorders for 20 years. Since discovering dialectical behavior therapy and body modification, Stacy has become an outspoken mental health advocate, committed to showing audiences that people with BPD can recover and that body modification can be an healing agent.

 

In her first book, Loud in the House of Myself, Stacy details her upbringing in her tiny hometown in Arkansas, through a narrative that begins at age eight and follows her increasing struggles through her college years. She shares her experience as a suicide attempt survivor and includes her continuing journey to wellness. As an Active Minds Speaker, she combines her passion for mental health advocacy with her gift for teaching, offering interactive writing workshops focused on diversity, interconnectedness, and how to be a better ally.

 

Stacy teaches creative writing at Gotham Writers' Workshop in New York City and Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. Stacy has also written for Psych Central, Seventeen Magazine, The Huffington Post, and the blog at Psychology Today. Her pieces focus on BPD and suicide through personal stories and interviews.
